A swift nighttime operation successfully rescued a young American man alive from the Rajucolta lagoon.

A satellite alert and the rapid mobilization of rescue teams in Huaraz prevented an afternoon of adventure from ending in tragedy. The young American, Ryan Erikson, just 19 years old, was successfully rescued after suffering an accident and becoming stranded near Rajucolta Lagoon, located at the foot of the imposing Huantsán mountain.

The incident began on the afternoon of March 10, when Erikson suffered an injury that prevented him from descending on his own. Given the seriousness of the situation and the imminent threat of severe hypothermia due to nightfall, the young man activated the SOS signal. from their Garmin inReach satellite device.

Emergency deployment in the dark.

After receiving the alert at the central base, the Peruvian Andean Relief Association (S.A.P.), under the general direction of Eric Raúl Albino Lliuya, activated an immediate response plan in close coordination with the High Mountain Police (PNP) of Huaraz.

The mountain does not This allowed for a waiting period, so the rescue was divided into two tactical waves:
