Emergency rescue on Alpamayo mountain mobilizes Peruvian Andean Rescue

Emergency rescue on Alpamayo mountain mobilizes Peruvian Andean Rescue

The mountains of the Cordillera Blanca offer no respite, and the fine line between adventure and emergency once again mobilized rescue teams in Ancash.

While specialized teams focused their efforts on the intense search for the three students missing on Artesonraju mountain, a new red alert was triggered in the region: British mountaineer Daniel Marc Holder activated his emergency beacon (SOS) from the imposing Alpamayo mountain.

A race against time

The activation of the geolocation device allowed for an immediate strategy to be devised. Thanks to the impressive speed of response and the professionalism of the Peruvian Andean Rescue Association (Socorro Andino Peruano – Mountain Rescue Association) team, an evacuation patrol was deployed that successfully located and brought the foreign national to safety.

Global Mountain Fact: Satellite emergency beacons (such as SPOT or Garmin InReach) continue to prove to be the difference between life and death in high-level mountaineering.

This rescue once again highlights the invaluable and tireless work of the Peruvian rescuers, who are doubling their efforts during a high-altitude season that is demanding the utmost of their abilities.

From Global Mountain, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Peruvian Andean Rescue Team and continue to closely monitor the progress of the operations on Artesonraju.
