Socorro Andino Peruano S.A.P. is the only private rescue body in Peru with professional training, qualifications, certifications, and accreditations for interventions in high-altitude areas and remote, rugged, and inaccessible zones. No matter how experienced you are, there is always an element of risk when enjoying the mountains, so being able to help others when things don't go as planned is a way of giving back.

Twenty-two years ago, he disappeared in an avalanche. His body has just been found. Melting glaciers on Peru's highest mountain helped uncover the body of Bill Stampfl, who vanished while climbing the mountain with two friends. Two decades after Bill Stampfl disappeared in an avalanche while climbing Peru's highest mountain, his daughter, Jennifer Stampfl, had more or less accepted that he was gone forever. Sometimes she still had dreams about him, alive in Peru, amnesiac and unaware that he had family in the United States. She knew he had hated the cold, so the idea of him being trapped in the ice was unsettling. But she thought she had made peace with the mountain keeping her father.

Although little is known about the details of the accident, the Peruvian rescue team found the bodies of Alexander and Vyacheslav yesterday on Huandoy Sur (6,160 m), where the Russian climbers were establishing a new route. The most likely hypothesis regarding the cause of this fatal accident is that the climbers were swept away by a rockfall as they began their descent after their last bivouac on August 26-27. Alexander Ruchkin was a renowned international mountaineer, awarded the Piolet d'Or in 2005 for his ascent of the north face of Mount Jannu with Dmitry Pavlenko, and a Russian Piolet d'Or in 2009 for their first ascent of the Minya Konka massif (Sichuan, China) with Mikhail Mikhailov. The same team of Alexander Ruchkin and Vyacheslav Ivanov also received a Russian Piolet d'Or in 2013 for the route Falling into the Void, which they established on the southwest face of Kusum Kanguru, 6,367 m (Nepal). Ivanov is also a three-time Russian Mountaineering Champion.
