GMR Rescue Costs (AWS)

Coverage and Scope: Active protection year-round and worldwide during leisure activities in rugged or difficult-to-access terrain.

What do we cover?: We cover the necessary expenses of local rescue organizations when a member faces an emergency, accident, or danger (in the mountains or water) and must be rescued—injured or uninjured—from difficult terrain. This includes:

  • Search and Rescue: Proven expenses for locating the individual.
  • Transportation: Transfer from the incident site to the nearest accessible road or hospital.
  • Fatalities: Rescue expenses applied in the same manner.

High-Risk Sports: Unlike other insurance providers, we include accidents occurring during high-risk activities such as:

  • Technical climbing (UIAA Grade 5 or higher).
  • Free Soloing (Climbing without protection).
  • Ice climbing.

Domestic Transfers and Repatriation: If a covered rescue has previously taken place, we cover the costs of transporting the injured or deceased within their country of residence (from hospital to hospital or to their primary residence) with no limit on the sum.

⚠️ ACTIVATION RULE: To guarantee full coverage, transportation must be organized by our dispatch center. Otherwise, the maximum reimbursement will be $879.64.

24/7 EMERGENCY CONTACT:

GMR Repatriation from Abroad (AWS)

Scope and Validity: Coverage is valid worldwide during the first eight weeks of each trip abroad. It protects the member in case of illness or accidents, whether they occur during leisure or professional activities. This repatriation service applies with no limit on the insured sum.

Transfer Services: We cover the full costs of medically justified transportation from abroad to a hospital in the member’s country of primary residence or directly to their home. Coverage also includes the travel expenses of a close person accompanying the insured.

High-Risk Sports: Unlike other insurance providers, GMR includes accidents occurring during high-difficulty activities:

  • Climbing from UIAA level 5 and above.
  • Free solo ascents (without protection).
  • Ice climbing.

Requirements to Activate Repatriation: In addition to the patient being fit to travel, one of the following conditions must be met:

  1. The health condition represents a life-threatening danger.
  2. Local medical care does not guarantee the quality standards of the home country.
  3. A hospitalization of more than five days is anticipated.
What does Global Mountain Rescue do in the event of death?

We manage and cover the full costs of transporting the deceased to their last primary residence. As with medical transfers, the service must be organized by our dispatch center to guarantee coverage.

⚠️ CRITICAL ACTIVATION NOTICE

Return transportation or repatriation MUST be organized and coordinated directly by Global Mountain Rescue. Otherwise, the policy will only reimburse a maximum of $879.64.

24/7 EMERGENCY CENTER:

For trips exceeding eight weeks, please inquire about our premium protection for individual travel.

Medical Expenses Abroad GMR (AWS)

Validity and Scope: Worldwide coverage during the first eight weeks of each trip abroad. It protects the member against illnesses or accidents occurring in both recreational and professional environments.

High-Risk Sports: Accidents occurring during high-mountain activities are included:

  • Technical climbing (UIAA Grade 5 or higher).
  • Free Solo (Climbing without protection).
  • Ice climbing.

Coverage Amounts and Conditions: Covers the costs of emergency medical treatment and necessary transportation to the nearest hospital abroad:

  • Total Sum Insured: Up to $ 11,728.50.
  • Outpatient Treatment: Up to $ 2,345.70 (includes prescription medications).
  • Deductible (Co-pay): A deductible of $ 82.10 applies per person and per trip for outpatient treatments.

Hospital Care (Inpatient):

  • Expenses in public hospitals are covered. In cases of extreme emergency where choosing is not possible, private hospitals are covered until a transfer to a public one is medically viable.
  • Direct Payment: For GMR to handle direct payment to the hospital, you must present your credentials and ensure the process is coordinated through our dispatch center. If there is no prior coordination, the maximum reimbursement will be $ 879.64.

⚠️ CRITICAL RECOMMENDATION (Upgrade): In countries with high medical costs (such as the USA or Canada), the sum of $ 11,728.50 is often insufficient. Global Mountain Rescue recommends upgrading your membership to Premium Protection, which increases your medical coverage up to $ 586,425.00.

GMR Legal Protection (AWS)

Criminal Defense Protection in Europe: We offer criminal legal defense with coverage of up to $ 41,049.75, valid year-round within the geographical territory of Europe. Protection is activated from the moment of indictment in a judicial proceeding or upon the first accusation in an administrative process.

Legal Expenses Insurance for Personal Injury: We cover claims for damages arising from accidents involving personal injury up to a maximum of $ 586.42 per case.

  • Includes: Reimbursement of legal fees for advice following incidents involving physical harm.
  • Excludes: Claims for property damage or purely economic losses are not covered.

Geographical Scope (Europe): For the purposes of this coverage, the term “Europe” geographically includes: Iceland, Greenland, Spitsbergen, Mediterranean islands, Canary Islands, Madeira, Cyprus, the Azores, as well as the Asian territories of Turkey and the (current and former) member states of the CIS.

Protected Activities: These benefits protect all our members during official club activities and the private practice of the following sports:

  • Hiking, mountaineering, and climbing.
  • Via ferrata, skiing (touring, cross-country), and snowboarding.
  • Whitewater canoeing and canyoning.
  • Mountain Biking / Trekking: Covered exclusively on bike paths, forest roads, mountain trails, and unpaved routes.
  • Important note: There is no coverage for routes on public roads, sidewalks, or urban access paths.

GMR Civil Liability (AWS)

Validity and Scope: Coverage available year-round throughout the entire European territory. This insurance covers indemnity obligations for personal injury (lesions) and property damage caused to third parties.

Coverage Conditions:

  • Property Damage: A deductible (excess) of $ 234.57 applies to each claim.
  • Beneficiaries: Protects all members, both domestic and foreign, in incidents arising from the organization’s activities.

Included Activities: Protection is active during both official Global Mountain Rescue events and the private practice of the following sports:

  • Hiking, mountaineering, climbing, and via ferrata.
  • Skiing, ski touring, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding.
  • Whitewater canoeing and canyoning.
  • Mountain Biking / Trekking: Specifically defined for routes taken on bike paths, forest roads, wooded trails, mountain paths, and other unpaved routes.

Important Exclusions: There is no insurance coverage for cycling performed on general public thoroughfares (roads), sidewalks, access streets, or paved urban areas.
