For international travel, additional coverage for medical expenses abroad is strongly recommended. Is your trip longer than 8 weeks or do you plan to climb a peak over 6,000 m? Then Premium Coverage for Individual Trips is the perfect solution! Coverage does not extend above 6,000 m for climbing, mountaineering expeditions, or self-guided excursions without a certified guide.

Coverage can only be obtained with prior written authorization from the insurer. You will find the form in the information box “Climbing mountains over 6,000 m”!

This agreement is based on the framework agreement established between the Austrian Alpine Club and the insurance companies Generali Versicherung AG and KNOX.

Through Global Mountain Rescue S.A.C. (www.gm-rescue.com), we operate through strategic alliances and formal agreements with recognized international organizations such as the Österreichischer Alpenverein, MAGNUS – International Search & Rescue and Global Rescue.

These partnerships allow us to guarantee the highest safety standards, comprehensive insurance coverage, and reliable operational support for trekking activities and high-altitude expeditions worldwide.

Treatment costs abroad

GMR insurance already covers treatment expenses abroad up to $117,285. With Premium Protection for Individual Travel, this coverage increases to $586,425.00. Especially for trips to the Americas, Turkey, or the Canary Islands, this upgrade is the perfect complement to your travel plans!

The coverage reimburses expenses incurred abroad for urgent and medically necessary treatments, including prescription medications and necessary transportation to the nearest appropriate hospital.

For outpatient treatments abroad, including prescription medications, there is a deductible of $82.10 per person per trip.

The policy can only be purchased online and before the start of your trip. You must be an active member of Global Mountain Rescue and have your primary residence in Europe.

Insurance coverage for 8 weeks

With GMR, trips of up to eight weeks are insured. Premium Individual Travel Protection also covers medically necessary repatriation from abroad after eight weeks. In addition, you’ll enjoy coverage for treatment expenses abroad up to $586,425.00.

If you wish to insure treatment expenses abroad for the entire duration of your trip up to $586,425.00, apply for coverage starting on the first day of your trip. Premium Individual Travel Protection can be extended up to four months.

Important! The upgrade must be purchased before the start of your trip, regardless of whether you wish to use the benefits from the first day or after eight weeks.

Purchase is only possible online and must be made before the start of your trip. Active membership in Global Mountain Rescue and primary residence in Europe are required.

Ascents above 6,000 m

Trips with the objective of climbing mountains over 6,000 m are excluded from the GMR.

With Premium Individual Travel Protection, you can cover rescue expenses, medical treatment abroad, and repatriation for medical reasons. This applies as long as the trip is a guided hiking excursion organized by a tourist to over 6,000 m with a certified guide (not climbing or mountaineering expeditions).

Climbing over 6,000 m, mountaineering expeditions, or self-organized trips without a certified guide are only covered with prior written approval from the insurer.

Please note that processing your application may take 2 to 3 weeks after submitting all required documentation.

You must register before the start of your trip. Important! Your entire trip (from your main place of residence to your return) must be covered by this policy.

Certification is only available online and must be completed before the start of your trip. In addition to application approval, the following is required:

  • Be an active member of Global Mountain Rescue with at least two consecutive paid membership dues.
  • Primary residence in Europe.

    ¡The security cover is valid in all parts of the world! Quedan excludes the routes from Corea del Norte, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Siria, Venezuela, Rusia, Bielorrusia, Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk and Iran.

    Duration

    The perfect complement to your membership insurance, covering medical expenses abroad for trips of up to 8 weeks.

    The coverage period begins at midnight on the day after the policy is purchased and ends on December 31 of the same year. For policies purchased from September 1 onwards, the coverage period ends on December 31 of the following year.
